In the last quarter of 2022, the order situation in the Austrian sawmill industry continued to decline.\u00a0It is currently still unclear whether this is just the usual seasonal decline or whether the economic slowdown is also playing a role.\u00a0Accordingly, the sawmill industry will react in line with the market over the winter months of 2023 with slightly reduced production.<\/p>\n
However, the good global demand for timber construction products is still optimistic, the order books are filling up a little more slowly at the beginning of 2023.<\/p>\n
The domestic supply of raw materials has developed extremely well in the last year.\u00a0However, the most recent quarter saw unexpected falls in felling in some regions. Production in the local forest is expected to stabilize at a good level of quality and quantity.\u00a0Confidence in the Austrian timber industry has been strengthened in many areas.\u00a0It is therefore now important to take advantage of the stable market situation.\u00a0The Austrian sawmill industry is receptive and is starting the new financial year with confidence.<\/p>\n
Panel industry<\/strong><\/p>\n The new year starts under difficult conditions. In particular, it can be assumed that the energy factor will have an even greater impact due to high spot prices for gas and electricity.<\/p>\n The order situation is tense, a weakening is noticeable, whereby plants with a strong construction focus have a lower capacity utilization compared to plants with mainly furniture customers.\u00a0These are roughly back to the level of 2019 and only slightly behind the previous year.\u00a0A noticeably lower demand for raw materials can therefore be assumed for the first few months.<\/p>\n The supply of raw materials is very good.\u00a0A good supply is expected from the winter season in the small forest, the stable roundwood prices should still be used for thinning measures.\u00a0And there is a high volume of roundwood from calamity regions, which means there is an increasing shift towards more use of roundwood at the expense of sawmill by-products.<\/p>\n The warehouses are currently very full due to a comparatively low utilization in the 4th quarter of 2022.\u00a0From the turn of the year there is again full receptivity within the framework of the contracts.\u00a0The production conditions are good.<\/p>\n The resilient Austrian panel industry is facing the challenges of the new year with confidence and together with the forestry sector will take advantage of the opportunities that arise.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" In the last quarter of 2022, the order situation in the Austrian sawmill industry continued to decline.\u00a0It is currently still unclear whether this is just the usual seasonal decline or whether the economic slowdown is also playing a role.\u00a0Accordingly, the … Continue reading
