After a brief brightening, the mood in the German timber industry continued to deteriorate in November.\u00a0The companies rated their current business situation significantly worse than in October.<\/p>\n

The positive news: The pessimism regarding the new year has eased noticeably, probably against the background of hopes that the recession will not be as deep as initially expected by many.\u00a0The order books are still full, but fewer and fewer new orders are being added.\u00a0In addition, high energy prices, continued double-digit inflation rates and rising construction interest burden the industry economy.<\/p>\n

Against this background, the economic indicator calculated by the ifo Institute fell by 8.5 points in November compared to the previous month to a value of minus 37.5.\u00a0As a result, the business climate in the German timber industry fell far behind the mood in the manufacturing industry, for which the ifo Institute determined a value of minus 11.7 points (previous month: -15.4 points).<\/p>\n

In the business climate index for the timber industry, the value for assessing the current situation fell significantly in November to -17.1 points (previous month: +6.1 points).\u00a0The outlook for the coming six months improved slightly from a very low level to minus 55.5 points (previous month: -58.2 points).<\/p>\n

However, an assessment of the business situation that differs between the segments of the timber industry must be taken into account.\u00a0In any case, the level of uncertainty among companies remains high.<\/p>\n

Against the background of double-digit inflation rates in recent months, the consumer climate remained very tense.\u00a0Some hopes are pinned on the Christmas business, but against the background of rising energy bills, no relief is to be expected in the medium term.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
