In the course of the third quarter, the investment company Berkshire Hathaway, managed by Warren Buffett, acquired a total of almost 5.8 million shares in the US OSB manufacturer Louisiana-Pacific in two transactions, worth nearly $297 million. Louisiana-Pacific shares jumped nearly 9% after hours on the news.<\/p>\n

Berkshire Hathaway is one of the most coveted stocks and one of the biggest companies in the world. The conglomerate has made a name for itself, thanks to the investing prowess of Warren Buffett who acquired the company in the mid-1960s. The billionaire investor has made Berkshire into a holding company by buying up troubled businesses and turning them around.<\/p>\n

With familiar brand names like GEICO, Duracell, and Fruit of the Loom under its belt, the Omaha, Nebraska company has a market capitalization close to $700 billion.<\/p>\n

Louisiana-Pacific is a global manufacturer of high-performance engineered wood products used in new home construction, repair and remodel, and outdoor structures. The company was founded in 1972 in Portland, Ore., and the headquarters moved to Nashville, Tenn., in 2001.
