{"id":83216,"date":"2022-11-14T11:09:17","date_gmt":"2022-11-14T11:09:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/latvia-wood-prices-reached-temporary-low-no-falls-expected\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:58:52","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:58:52","slug":"latvia-wood-prices-reached-temporary-low-no-falls-expected","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/latvia-wood-prices-reached-temporary-low-no-falls-expected\/","title":{"rendered":"Latvia: Wood prices have reached a temporary low, no further falls expected"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>Latvian wood processing company SIA \"Kronus\" predicts for the fourth quarter of 2022 that wood prices have reached a temporary lowest point, significant price drops in the prices of raw materials are not expected in the future, therefore it is not recommended to postpone the necessary purchases until a later time, the company informs.<\/p>\n<p>The company notes that although the prices of raw materials started to decrease already at the beginning of the summer and continued to decrease in August, a further decrease in the prices of final products is not expected, as the high energy prices cause a noticeable increase in production costs for both lumber and final products.<\/p>\n<p>As reported by the Swedish sawmill group \"Vida Group\", the latest increase in electricity prices by one Swedish krona per kilowatt hour means an increase in production prices of approximately 16 million euros per year, which corresponds to a 10% increase in costs.<\/p>\n<p>\"Kronus\" states that due to the existing contracts with electricity suppliers, the rising energy costs in the Latvian wood industry companies will soon affect the prices.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, according to the data maintained by the company, there is a high demand for fiber and firewood in Europe, which is caused by high energy costs.\u00a0People try to cover their heating needs in the winter period with firewood, pellets and chip briquettes, so the prices of these goods have more than doubled in recent weeks, and \"Kronus\" market experts believe that the prices of firewood still have a chance to grow.<\/p>\n<p>The company also notes that there is a significant demand for edge boards and their initial shortage in almost all European markets.<\/p>\n<p>As the reason for the shortage, \"Kronus\" cites reduced sawing of basic assortments, which led to reduced availability of edge boards, small and medium-diameter logs entering immediately into firewood without sawing, as well as the need to meet the demand for edge boards in the packaging and horticulture industries.<\/p>\n<p>The company also informs that an increased demand for pallets and two-pallet edging has been observed, as well as a stable demand for horticultural products made from edge boards.<\/p>\n<p>According to \"Kronus\", this is reinforced by the fact that the suppliers of horticultural products from Belarus and Russia are excluded from the market for the next season.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Latvian wood processing company SIA &#8220;Kronus&#8221; predicts for the fourth quarter of 2022 that wood prices have reached a temporary lowest point, significant price drops in the prices of raw materials are not expected in the future, therefore it is &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/latvia-wood-prices-reached-temporary-low-no-falls-expected\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":85648,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4716,4715],"tags":[3569,4188],"class_list":["post-83216","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-trends","category-market-analysis","tag-latvia","tag-wood-prices","topic-forestry","topic-industry-prices","topic-sawmilling","topic-wood-furniture","topic-wood-based-panels","area-europe"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
