Norwegian Moelven delivered a good result for the third quarter, but warns that the time ahead will be challenging. The consumer market in Scandinavia is characterized by weak demand for wood products, and the international market is more in a wait-and-see mood.<\/p>\n

''The contrasts with the last year are great, the market has changed, demand is lower, inventory levels are increasing and we are seeing cost increases for many things, including electricity. This forces completely different measures,'' says Morten Kristiansen, Moelven's CEO, in a press release.<\/p>\n

For the wood-consuming units in Moelven, this means a downward adjustment of production during the fourth quarter.<\/p>\n

''Wood as a climate-smart building material will not lose ground,'' says Moelven's CEO, Morten Kristiansen.<\/p>\n

''Unfortunately, we find ourselves forced to reduce parts of the production at our sawmills and planing mills. For some of the units, there can be a reduction of up to 20 percent. This means that cost adjustments are required, says Kristiansen.<\/p>\n

The group's turnover was NOK 3116 million in the third quarter of 2022. This is a decrease of NOK 835 million compared to the same period in 2021. The operating profit for the third quarter ended at NOK 229 million compared to NOK 1143 million in the third quarter of the previous year.<\/p>\n

Moelven Byggmodul AS announced earlier this fall that it is announcing layoffs for 80 people as a result of non-delivery of orders in the housing segment. Half of these have now been relocated and given temporary work in other Moelven companies.<\/p>\n

The CEO makes no secret of the fact that large parts of the group are experiencing a more challenging market situation, but he still maintains good courage and believes that the future will most likely be built in wood.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
