The price of pellets in Europe over the past decade has been characterized by very low dynamics.\u00a0For example, the average annual growth in pellet prices in Germany from 2012 to 2021 was only 0.24%.\u00a0Adjusted for inflation, prices even declined by 1.44%.\u00a0During this period, there were significant jumps in oil prices, but the cost of wood pellets did not change at all.\u00a0This clearly shows the absence of a direct relationship between the dynamics of prices for pellets and fossil fuels.<\/p>\n

Since the beginning of 2022, a significant increase in biofuel prices has become noticeable in Europe.\u00a0If usually by the summer the price of pellets always decreased, then in 2022 the seasonal factor worked in the opposite direction.\u00a0Global turmoil in the energy markets, increased logistics costs, the conversion of European heating networks to biofuels, the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, which resulted in a ban on the import of only 44 HS codes from Russia to the EU - all these factors caused a stunning rise in prices for wood pellets in Europe .<\/p>\n

In September 2022, European prices for pellets showed their historical highs - in many EU countries they soared two or more times compared to September 2021. Thus, in Germany, the average price for the year more than tripled: from 225 \u20ac \/t to 747 \u20ac\/t (deliveries of 26 t). In Austria, the price jumped by 148% yoy, from 229\u00a0\u20ac\/t to 569\u00a0\u20ac\/t in September 2022. In Latvia, the price has increased to 663\u00a0\u20ac\/t in September.<\/p>\n

So far, there are no prerequisites that the price of wood biofuels in Europe will decrease.\u00a0Moreover, many heating network operators buy pellets, even if they are not urgently needed.\u00a0Winter is coming, and\u00a0the gas conflict between Russia and the EU does not think to subside, which in turn can \u201cwarm up\u201d the pellet market even more.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
