The Polish wood industry is protesting against the decisions of the State Forests, which lead to a sharp increase in wood prices. Dangerous for the existence of this sector is also the gradual resignation from environmental protection certificates by the regional units of the State Forests - argue representatives of the Polish wood industry. High wood prices have already hit, among others, in manufacturers of windows, doors, furniture and pallets. Polish wood is currently the most expensive in Europe.<\/p>\n

The algorithm provided by the State Forests calculates the increases at the level of about 50-60 percent. for the raw material. For example, currently a cubic meter of uncut pine is almost PLN 400 (EUR 82\/m3). After the raise, it will be over PLN 600 (EUR 123\/m3).<\/p>\n

\"The State Forests disregards all appeals for the support of the industry and raises the prices for long-term customers processing wood in the country and employing 400,000 workers\" the members of the Polish wood industry say in a statement. They indicate that due to the current situation, up to 100,000 jobs may be lost.<\/p>\n

''Nobody can withstand such increases, we are already closing plants and firing people,'' says the director of the Polish Chamber of Commerce for Wood Industry, Rafa\u0142 Szefler, and adds that more expensive raw material also means more expensive wood products. Cheaper materials available on the market - boards or construction timber - are mainly imported products.<\/p>\n

\"Extremely high wood prices will translate into more expensive paper, books, notebooks, food packaging, medicines, construction timber, pallets and furniture for Polish consumers and will drive up record-high inflation in Poland,\" the statement says.<\/p>\n

According to entrepreneurs, wood in Poland is currently the most expensive in all of Europe.<\/p>\n

\"There is a real risk that instead of processing wood from Polish forestsby the domestic companies, we will import finished products and export roundwood. This is an economic and image absurdity which is extremely harmful to the Polish economy,\" the statement says.<\/p>\n

Poland's State Forests: There will be further increases in wood prices<\/strong><\/p>\n

The State Forests confirm that there will be increases in wood prices, but not as high as the entrepreneurs claim. As representatives of the office explain, the prices of this raw material must increase because market prices are rising.<\/p>\n

''It is absolutely not true that the price increases will reach 40-50 percent. The State Forests set a minimum price, and this final price is up to the buyer. We set our reserve price - the starting one - based on the selling price for the last 9 months. We have lowered the average price from this period by 20 percent and from this level entrepreneurs will submit bids for the next year. The State Forests, as the manager of the State Treasury's property, cannot disregard the price values \u200b\u200bdetermined by the market. The same minimum price will apply both in the procedures for regular customers and in open auctions. This is because the prices that the companies offered in this year's auctions have more than twice exceeded the level of prices obtained in the procedures for regular customers. As a result, a significant part of customers do not complete their purchases in the auction system,'' says Rafa\u0142 Zubkowicz from the State Forests and adds: Now that we have evened the starting price, we hope that the final prices will also be flattened and more companies will be able to buy timber from the State Forests.<\/p>\n

In addition, as officials emphasize - if the prices were too low, the wood could be bought by foreign companies, and as a result - it could be lacking for Polish companies.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
