In Austria, Styria and Carinthia were the hardest hit by the thunderstorms in August. According to the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, the additional high incidence of beetle wood in Carinthia and East Tyrol also contributes to the fact that new contracts are only made with caution. The continued subdued demand in the Austrian construction sector means that the Austrian sawmill industry, after some extended summer shutdowns, are only continuing their cuts at a reduced level.<\/p>\n

The amount of softwood sawlogs required for this is mostly covered by existing contracts. The prices were thus lowered again. The average price for the leading range of spruce A\/C, 2b ranges from \u20ac97 to \u20ac115 per cubic meter, regionally the \u20ac100 limit was thus undershot. The removal of the quantities usually runs satisfactorily. There were also slight downward price adjustments for pine sawlogs. Larch is in high demand with mostly constant prices.<\/p>\n

The availability of staff is seen as a challenge. In addition to a lack of truck drivers, it is above all the timber harvesting personnel who are missing on the site.<\/p>\n

The persistently small processing rate in the Austrian sawmill industry also means that there is a shortage of sawmill by-products and the quantities that arise are increasingly being diverted to pellet production. The demand for softwood pulpwood is correspondingly lively. The removal and acceptance take place promptly without major delays. The prices have increased.<\/p>\n

Red beech pulpwood is also very much in demand at higher prices. Here, too, the upper price is regionally at \u20ac 120 per ton.<\/p>\n

The persistently high prices and the lower availability of fossil fuels continue to heat up the fuel wood market. Demand for all ranges is very lively. In the case of firewood in particular, the sharp increase in demand can hardly be covered, despite the sometimes sharply increased prices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
