There are clear signs of revival in Finland's wood prices compared to the beginning of the year, estimates\u00a0The Finnish Forest Industries Federation (Mets\u00e4teollisuus ry). According to the federation, the wood trade has started to pick up quickly after the holiday season.<\/p>\n
The member companies of the forest industry bought 20.5 million cubic meters of wood from private forests in January-August. The amount is five percent less than the average of the corresponding period of the previous five years and 16 percent behind last year's purchase volume.<\/p>\n
In January-August, the member companies of the pulpwood forest industry bought 9.9 million cubic meters and 9.6 million cubic meters of log wood.<\/p>\n
An average of 70 euros per a cubic meter was paid for pine sawlogs in August. The price varied between 38 and 75 euros depending on region and logging method. The average price of a sawlog was 74 euros per cube and varied between 38 and 77 euros. The average price of birch was 50 euros per cubic meter and varied between 31 and 55 euros.<\/p>\n
An average of 20\u201322 euros per cube was paid for softwood pulpwood. The price varied between 12 and 24 euros.<\/p>\n
All in all, the prices of softwood logs were 12\u201314 percent higher in August than at the beginning of the year, and birch logs were 11 percent higher than at the beginning of the year.
