The\u00a0government\u00a0has proposed to \u201ctemporarily suspend\u201d the fuel quality requirement for\u00a0Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)\u00a0participants using\u00a0wood pellets.<\/p>\n

That is part of a consultation launched by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy seeking views on the proposed measures.<\/p>\n

Ministers have acknowledged that the\u00a0Russian invasion of Ukraine\u00a0and the imposed sanctions have affected the supply of wood pellets in the UK.<\/p>\n

The government is looking at a 12-month suspension of the \u2018ENplus A1\u2019 standard for wood pellets \u2013 this requirement came into effect in April to reduce\u00a0air pollution\u00a0and improve fuel efficiency.<\/p>\n

Officials said: \u201cIt is estimated that up to 40% of the ENplus pellets used in the UK are imported from Russia and Belarus.<\/div>\n

\u201cWe recognise that the suspension of wood pellets coming from these countries is likely to have an impact on the availability, and consequentially on the prices of wood pellets in the coming months and through the next winter.\u201d<\/p>\n
