Sales in the German timber trade developed very well in the first quarter of 2022. On average, sales increased by 25% compared to the previous quarter.<\/p>\n
According to the results of the monthly GD Holz company survey, the vast majority of the participating companies state that these high increases are largely price-related. The volume turnover is probably about the same as the previous year or slightly higher.<\/p>\n
The clear growth in sales runs through all major product ranges, with panel materials leading the way with an increase of 32%, followed by lumber ranges with +23%, but flooring has also increased very strongly with +21%. In a comparison of the distribution channels, sales in the wholesale trade have developed better than in the wood retail trade.<\/span><\/p>\n Wholesale more optimistic than retail<\/strong><\/p>\n The expectations of the participants in the German company survey show a mixed picture for the next three months. In wholesale, around 80% expect increasing or constant sales, in retail this is only 50%. Half of the participants expect declining sales here.<\/p>\n This can be interpreted in such a way that business with craftsmen and construction companies remains stable or is even growing, but that with private end consumers is apparently declining.<\/p>\n Overall, demand is described as continuing to be stable and good, but there are also some voices who are observing increasing restraint on the market. According to market participants, this is mainly due to the sharp rise in prices compared to the previous year. Goods, on the other hand, are generally sufficiently available, even if there are waiting times in some areas.<\/p>\n Stable timber construction industry expected\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n GD Holz expects the German wood construction sector to continue to be stable over the course of the year and good sales and business opportunities for the wood trade.
