The increase is reported in all species, with the highest increases in oak and douglas.<\/p>\n

France Bois For\u00eat (the National Association of the France's forest-wood sector), has just published its index of wood sales in private forests for the year 2021. And the increase in purchase prices to owners is strong: +34% as compared to 2020.<\/p>\n

The increase in stumpage prices is on average \u20ac20 per m3 in all species, from \u20ac61\/m3 in 2020, up to \u20ac81\/m3 in 2021. According to the France Bois For\u00eat, \u201cthis is the highest level ever reached since the creation of the index in 2001.\u201d<\/p>\n

Between 13 and 39% increase<\/strong><\/p>\n

The increase is reported in all species, while the supply of wood is also on the rise. The increases are between 13% and 39%. In the hardwood sector, the oak index increased sharply and now exceeds the symbolic bar of 200 \u20ac\/m3 at 225 \u20ac\/m3.<\/p>\n

France Bois For\u00eat notes a good price recovery in beech and poplar while ash is stabilizing.<\/p>\n

In softwoods a very clear price rise in Douglas fir can be noticed (+39%, up to \u20ac89\/m3), as well as an increase in maritime pine and a recovery in Norway spruce and fir.<\/p>\n

Price catch-up needed<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to France Bois For\u00eat, \u201cthis catch-up in prices was expected by French foresters because over the past 30 years, the price of wood has increased significantly less than that of other materials such as steel or cement . ''This better remuneration for forest production will help ensure the sustainability of French forests, which must be adapted to climate change in order to continue to grow and meet the increase in demand, particularly linked to the energy transition,'' France Bois For\u00eat says.<\/p>\n

Inflation expected to continue<\/strong><\/p>\n

The association continues: \u201cthis record level of stumpage selling prices should continue in the years to come. This renewable and local material indeed has an essential role to play in the decarbonization of the economy and the sovereignty of the country.
