Although there are signs that Shanghai port congestion is easing, European business could face a \"logistics nightmare\".<\/p>\n

Bettina Schoen-Behanzin, vice-president of the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China and president of the Shanghai branch, said that while Shanghai has allowed some companies to restart operations, many still face challenges from labor shortages and logistical difficulties.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Bettina Schoen-Behanzin added that due to the ongoing lockdown, it expects less than 30% of employees to be eligible to be allowed to work, so there is still a big gap between introducing a policy and implementing it. The problems are expected to continue until mid-May.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, U.S. and U.K. chambers of commerce and international companies have also expressed concerns about the follow-up impact of the Shanghai blockade.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, the Shanghai-based American Chamber of Commerce said officials were still coordinating the movement of workers and goods through Chinese provinces. The association's president, Eric Zheng, said coordination could help resolve transport and logistics issues, but the backlog from previous lockdowns could take days to weeks to resolve. British companies are expected to see lower profits in China this year because of the lockdown, which also affects their ability to attract and retain foreign talent, a survey by the British Chambers of Commerce showed last week.<\/p>\n

Singapore-based Linerlytica said in its latest weekly report that there are signs that port congestion in China is easing. The report noted that port congestion in Shanghai and Ningbo has gradually risen since Shanghai imposed its lockdown in March, but there are signs that the situation is still under control.
