Competition for wood products becomes tougher when European buyers, who have previously imported from Russia, and are now looking for new suppliers. But this autumn, it is possible that the European market may begin to stabilize again.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

''There is no shortage of Swedish forests, and there is no risk of raw material shortages in Sweden.\u00a0There will be high pressure in the coming months, but already this autumn we hope that supply and demand can be more in balance,'' says Christian Nielsen, the Swedish Forest Industries' market analyst for wood products.<\/p>\n

Swedish sawmills primarily produce their wood products from Swedish raw materials.\u00a0With the exception of Norway, imports of sawn timber from other countries to Sweden are insignificant.\u00a0As a result, the Swedish sawmill industry is not much affected by the sanctions against Russia and Belarus.\u00a0The risks that Christian Nielsen sees for the Swedish part are therefore primarily about the logistics situation, where he raises a warning finger.<\/p>\n

''There are several factors that can have an inhibiting effect on transport options, such as access to drivers, trucks and sea transport.\u00a0It matters less if Swedish sawmills succeed in maintaining a high level of production if at a later stage they do not have the opportunity to transport the products to the market.''<\/p>\n

Europe as a whole is a net exporter of wood products with 25 million cubic meters per year.\u00a0This corresponds to more than twice as much volume as that which falls away due to the sanctions against Russia and Belarus.\u00a0Sweden, as a large forest nation, accounts for an important part of the contribution to European net exports.<\/p>\n
