When the Swedish wood industry looks to the next three years, a large increase in exports is forecast. China and the United States are leading the way, but sales to Europe are also expected to increase. The climate issue is taking up more and more space and where a challenge is about finding the right material for the right opportunity.<\/p>\n
The Swedish wood industry also requires changes in regulations to be able to secure access to wood in the future. These are some of the results in a survey from Tyr\u00e9ns, a Swedish consultancy group focusing on urban development and infrastructure, which has questioned the major Swedish players in the wood products industry.<\/p>\n
''Increasing Swedish exports of wood products are expected in 2022 and it is the economic powers China and the USA that are leading the development. 50 percent of the companies in our survey state that their sales to China will increase in 2022. Only 8 percent see a decrease during the year. Exports to the USA are also expected to increase according to as many of the companies surveyed,'' says Elias Baena, who is responsible for business development of wooden houses within Tyr\u00e9ns.<\/p>\n
But despite the increased exports, there are no plans for increased investments in the Swedish sawmill structure according to the answers in the survey. None of the companies that answered the questions say that they will increase investments in sawmills in the coming years.<\/p>\n
''We see a clear trend when it comes to wooden constructions here in Sweden. Therefore, we hope that the increased exports signaled in the survey will not hamper the development that is now taking place, not least for reasons of sustainability,'' says Elias Baena.<\/p>\n
Climate issues increasingly important in the industry<\/strong><\/p>\n The survey also shows that sustainability and the climate challenge are taking an increasing place in the Swedish wood products industry. As many as 75 percent agree with the statement that climate change will affect the continued development of the Swedish sawmill industry to a large extent.<\/p>\n ''This is obviously positive, but we also see a challenge ahead for the construction industry and which is about finding the right material for the right opportunity. We need to see more combinations of materials that are optimized based on durability and requirements,'' comments Elias Baena.<\/p>\n Changes in regulations<\/strong><\/p>\n The results also show that the current legislation for felling and the environment needs to be adjusted, in order to be able to meet the need for timber supply in the longer term.<\/p>\n ''Here, all companies answer that they want to see some form of change.
