Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia and Belarus, Estonia is missing 30 percent of the timber that has been supplied every year from these countries.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Estonian Minister of Enterprise Andres Sutt recommend to the Ministry of the Environment to temporarily increase the logging volumes, the minister promised to consider it.<\/p>\n

Due to the collapse of the Russian market, the Estonian forest and timber industries have run into great difficulties, but timber is also needed in the construction and furniture industries.<\/p>\n

Herki H\u00e4lvin, head of Kitman Thulema, said that the scarcity of raw materials further increases the price of wood products.<\/p>\n

\"The scarcity of wood means that producers simply do not distribute raw materials to produce. The felling volumes are small and prices are rising,\" said H\u00e4lvin.<\/p>\n

\"Tile material is our main raw material and the prices of tile materials increase by 10-15 percent every month, but this is a cumulative percentage, ie in five or six months the prices will actually increase by 100 percent,\" said H\u00e4lvin.<\/p>\n

There is already a shortage of timber in the Estonian construction sector.<\/p>\n

\"There is also a shortage of wood. The problem is to get certain cross-sections, bigger cross-sections, there is a problem with plywood,\" said Raivo Rand, a member of Rand and Tuulberg's supervisory board.<\/p>\n

However, according to Ranna, the shortage of wood affects the entire Estonian economy.<\/p>\n

\"30 percent of the used wood processed in Estonia today comes from Russia and Belarus. If this volume does not come, there will undoubtedly be a big hole in the Estonian economy, because wood is used in many areas of life, not only in construction and the building materials industry. I don't know any industry, which could manage without wood, \"said Rand.<\/p>\n

As imports from Russia and Belarus are no longer possible, one million cubic meters of wood raw material is missing in Estonia.\u00a0According to several business associations, replacing it with other supplies in the near future is not realistic and industries are stalling.<\/p>\n

Therefore, the unions and also the Minister of Enterprise Andres Sutt suggested to the Minister of the Environment Erki Savisaar that the felling volumes should be raised to the level before the reduction of logging quotas.\u00a0Namely, the previous Minister of the Environment T\u00f5nis M\u00f6lder reduced the volume of RMK's renewal felling by 20 percent this year.<\/p>\n

\"This year's felling volume was really reduced and it makes sense to move it to where it was. But will it have the effect of cutting it to the same level at such short notice ... that is something we need to discuss , \"said Savisaar.<\/p>\n

According to the associations, forestry work during the spring nesting season and the conditions for felling should also be reviewed.Last month, the Estonian Chamber of Environmental Associations sent a letter to the government, according to which the cutting volumes would be increased at the expense of nature.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
