The war in Ukraine causes the business climate index in the German timber industry to fall drastically.\u00a0The current order situation is still perceived as good by companies.\u00a0But in the future, companies are also expecting tough times due to ongoing supply chain problems.<\/p>\n
The companies' assessment of the current situation deteriorated slightly in March to +44.1 points (previous month: +47.5 points). The outlook for the next 6 months, on the other hand, darkened significantly, the current value is -34.6 points (previous month: +3.1 points). Overall, the economic indicator of the Main Association of the German Wood Industry (HDH) fell to +0.9 points in March (previous month: +24.2 points).<\/p>\n
In view of the different impacts on the individual segments, the mood in the German timber industry remains mixed.\u00a0Companies in all segments and especially in prefabricated timber construction (+94.1 points), in the construction-related area of \u200b\u200bthe timber industry (+56 points) and in the sawmill industry (+53.7 points) assess their current business situation as positive.<\/p>\n
However, the expectations in all segments indicate a negative development in the coming months.\u00a0In particular, the wood packaging industry (-53.3 points), the furniture industry (-43.3 points) and the wood-based materials industry (-37.9 points) are currently pessimistic about the future: these segments expect the business situation to deteriorate significantly in the next six months.<\/p>\n
From the point of view of the HDH, this is due not only to the expected negative effects of the Ukraine war on demand, but also to rising energy prices and the worsening problems in procuring materials.\u00a0The delivery problems currently affect adhesives, fittings, steel as well as plastics and packaging.<\/p>\n
Although the price trend for sawn timber has stabilized in recent months, wood-based materials and almost all other raw materials and primary products in the wood and plastics industry have become more expensive.\u00a0A significant easing of the supply and price situation is not to be expected in the coming months.\u00a0A possible suspension of Russian gas deliveries to Germany also remains a risk factor.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
