Reduced log supply to China has maintained price increases, but increasing shipping costs, a strengthening NZD and other external factors mean an increased downside risk for AWG prices in New Zealand.<\/p>\n<p>The PF Olsen log price index increased $4 in March to $128 which is $5 above the two-year average, $7 above the three year-average and $4 above the five-year average.<\/p>\n<p>The slowdown we've seen in New Zealand log exports to China has continued through February. Exports for the month were well down on the same month in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>For the month ended February New Zealand log exports to China saw shipments dropped by 15 percent, compared to Feb 2021,\u00a0dragging overall log exports down 12 percent.\u00a0Notably, logs to South Korea were up 64 percent for the month.<\/p>\n<p>Year-on-year\u00a0the chart shows total log export values to China to the end of February were up 27 percent contributing to overall log exports being buoyed by 20 percent across all export markets. Log exports to South Korea were up for the year by 14 percent up while volumes while logs to Japan were up 10 percent and to India were down 75 percent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/logex-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-28147\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/logex-3-300x138.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/logex-3-300x138.jpg 300w, https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/logex-3.jpg 805w\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"207\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"section-title\"><\/h2>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The prices for New Zealand export logs increased an average of $6 in March.
