The volume of timber traded in January-February in Finland was 20 percent lower than in the corresponding period of the previous year.<\/p>\n

In January-February, the member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Association bought 4.2 million cubic meters of wood from private forests, which is 20 percent less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.<\/p>\n

\u200dIn January-February, the purchase volume of pulpwood was 2.2 million cubic meters, which is 17 percent less than in the corresponding period last year.\u00a0The volume of logs purchased was 1.8 million cubic meters, which is 23 percent less than in the previous year.<\/p>\n

\u200dNo major changes in log prices<\/strong><\/p>\n

Log prices were at the same level in February as in January.\u00a0Compared to February of the previous year, prices of logs were 3\u20135 percent higher and the prices of softwood pulpwood were 2 percent lower than a year ago.<\/p>\n

\u200dIn February, an average of EUR 62 per cubic meter was paid for pine sawlogs, but the price varied between EUR 31 and EUR 66 depending on the region and felling destination.\u00a0The average price of a spruce log was 66 euros per cubic meter, and the price varied between 33 and 68 euros.\u00a0The average price of birch logs was 45 euros per cubic meter, and varied between 29 and 50 euros.\u00a0The average price of pulpwood was EUR 17\u201320 per cubic meter, and the price varied between EUR 12 and EUR 22.<\/p>\n

\u200dThere are several reasons for the variation in carrier prices.\u00a0The price level is affected by, among other things, the total amount of timber to be harvested, the quality of the timber, the size of the trunks, the felling method, the forest and long-distance transport distance, the terrain and the time and conditions of harvesting.\u00a0As a result, the price of wood can fluctuate significantly even in adjacent forest sites.<\/p>\n
