The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has proposed introducing a ban on the export of birch wood, plywood logs (raw materials for plywood production) and fuel chips to \"unfriendly countries\" by the end of 2022, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

\"The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed introducing a ban on the export of timber and a number of products from it by the end of this year. The ban will affect the unfriendly states included in the list, including the United States and the countries of the European Union,\" the report says.<\/p>\n

As follows from the release of the ministry, birch wood, fuel chips, and plywood logs will be banned.<\/p>\n

\"Birch pulpwood (the main raw material for paper production) and fuel chips, which are subject to the ban, are critical goods for the European Union. In particular, Russian producers of these materials account for 10 to 15% of their consumption in Finland, which means that it will be impossible to replace them all at once In turn, the ban on the export of plywood logs against the backdrop of EU anti-dumping duties on finished plywood from Russia will not allow European manufacturers to increase the capacity of their own enterprises at the expense of Russian raw materials,\" the Ministry of Industry and Trade noted\u00a0.<\/p>\n

The draft resolution to ban the export of these products has already been submitted to the government of the Russian Federation, the ministry said.<\/p>\n

Earlier in March, it became known that the Russian government approved\u00a0a list of foreign states\u00a0and territories that commit unfriendly actions against the Russian Federation, Russian companies and citizens.<\/p>\n

The list includes the member states of the European Union, Australia, Albania, Andorra, the United Kingdom (including the island of Jersey and controlled overseas territories - the island of Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, Gibraltar), Iceland, Canada, Liechtenstein, Micronesia, Monaco, New Zealand, Norway, Republic of Korea, San Marino, North Macedonia, Singapore, USA, Taiwan, Ukraine, Montenegro, Switzerland and Japan.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
