S\u00f6dra has decided to raise\u00a0timber prices in order to maintain the flows of raw materials to industry mainly due to a\u00a0continued high demand for forest products and at the same time a great deal of uncertainty in Europe.\u00a0Contractors are also compensated for increased fuel costs.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As of the 11th March, S\u00f6dra will increase the prices of several timber ranges in order to strengthen the members' profitability and maintain the flows to the industry. The timber price increase includes timber, pulpwood, small timber and fuel wood.<\/p>\n

''We estimate that demand for forest products will be strong in the spring, but we are in a very uncertain situation with war in Ukraine and global turbulence. This shows the importance of a strong domestic industry and stable flows from the forest,'' says Olof Hansson, business area manager for S\u00f6dra Skog, in a press release.<\/p>\n

Olof believes that the rising costs of, for example, fuel will have a negative effect on family forestry and make it more difficult to extract raw materials from the forest. To counteract the situation for S\u00f6dra's members becoming tougher, S\u00f6dra chooses to make a broad price increase for timber.<\/p>\n

The contractors are compensated<\/strong><\/p>\n

The contractors that S\u00f6dra worked with in 2022 have been negatively affected by the high fuel prices, therefore S\u00f6dra will retroactively compensate the 200 contractor companies for the price increases in recent months. Going forward, S\u00f6dra will also update its diesel index monthly instead of quarterly.<\/p>\n

''The situation right now is exceptional. It is important that the contractors can carry out work in the forest and therefore we compensate for the recent cost increase. It is reasonable that we in S\u00f6dra temporarily take this cost together without passing on the cost increase to our members. An additional reason is that many forest owners are forced to postpone their fellings because we have to prioritize storm reprocessing to avoid large spruce bark beetle infestations this summer,'' says Olof.<\/p>\n
