Replacing Russian wood will increase domestic demand, logistics may become a bottleneck.<\/p>\n

\u201cStora Enso has plans in place to deal with wood supply disruptions. Now the plans are being reviewed and implemented, \u201d says Janne Partanen , Director of Forestry, about the suspension of wood procurement in Russia, but does not open the details of the plans.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe decision to suspend imports will be implemented immediately. The change is big and it's coming fast. \u201d<\/p>\n

It is currently being discussed from what sources Russian wood is being replaced. Attempts are being made to obtain birch not only from Finland, but also from Sweden and the Baltic countries. Stora Enso has 1.4 million hectares of its own forests in Sweden.<\/p>\n

Stora Enso has imported two million cubic meters of birch fiber and half a million cubic meters of sawdust from Russia, which is more than ten percent of domestic consumption.<\/p>\n

The locations are Enocell's plant in Uimaharju and the Kaukop\u00e4\u00e4 and Tainionkoski plants in Imatra. As the flow of wood changes, the effects will be wider.<\/p>\n

Imports have mainly been by train, and Partanen states that it is not just a question of the availability of wood, but also of logistics.<\/p>\n
