{"id":81939,"date":"2022-03-03T11:56:36","date_gmt":"2022-03-03T11:56:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/worlds-biggest-shipping-lines-suspended-deliveries-russia\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:57:04","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:57:04","slug":"worlds-biggest-shipping-lines-suspended-deliveries-russia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/worlds-biggest-shipping-lines-suspended-deliveries-russia\/","title":{"rendered":"World&#8217;s biggest shipping lines have suspended deliveries to Russia"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>The world\u2019s three biggest shipping lines have suspended non-essential deliveries to Russia, joining a\u00a0growing list of companies\u00a0shunning Moscow amid Western sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Danish shipping giant Maersk, Switzerland-based MSC and France\u2019s CMA CGM all announced on Tuesday that they would no longer take bookings for goods from Russia and were suspending most deliveries to the country.<\/p>\n<div class=\"more-on\">\n<p>Citing the impact of sanctions, \u201cbookings to and from Russia will be temporarily suspended, with exception of foodstuffs, medical and humanitarian supplies\u201d, Maersk said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>MSC announced similar measures, saying it would \u201ccontinue to accept and screen bookings for delivery of essential goods\u201d.<\/p>\n<p data-inc=\"1\">CMA CGM said its \u201cutmost priorities remain to protect our employees and ensure as much as possible the continuity of your supply chain\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the interest of safety, the group has decided to\u00a0suspend all bookings to and from Russia\u00a0as of today and until further notice,\u201d it said in a statement posted on its website.<\/p>\n<p>Container shipping companies carry the bulk of the world\u2019s manufactured goods, making them a vital part of the global trade system.<\/p>\n<p>Russia is the world\u2019s eleventh-largest economy and supplier of one-sixth of all commodities and the moves by Maersk, MSC, and CMA CGM mean that Moscow is effectively cut off from a large chunk of the globe\u2019s shipping capacity.<\/p>\n<p data-inc=\"2\">The West has imposed\u00a0heavy restrictions\u00a0on Russia to close off its economy from the global financial system, pushing companies to halt sales, cut ties and dump tens of billions of dollars worth of investments.<\/p>\n<p>The aim of the sanctions is to \u201cisolate Russia politically, financially and economically\u201d, Germany\u2019s finance minister Christian Lindner said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>The measures have \u201calready had a massive impact on capital markets and the currency\u201d, he said after a meeting with counterparts from the G7 club of wealthy nations.<\/p>\n<p>Other companies that suspended sales in Russia on Tuesday include Apple, Google, Ford and Harley-Davidson.<\/p>\n<p data-inc=\"3\">Apple said it was \u201cdeeply concerned about the Russian invasion of Ukraine\u201d and announced a pause in sales in Russia and other measures including limiting Apple Pay and dropping the ability to download RT News outside of Russia.<\/p>\n<p>US payment card firms Visa Inc and Mastercard Inc have blocked multiple Russian financial institutions from their network.<\/p>\n<p>Russian authorities have announced a slew of measures designed to stem the fall of the ruble and the broader financial markets, including banning money transfers abroad and closing the Moscow Stock Market.<\/p>\n<p>The ruble has\u00a0dropped\u00a0by about 35 percent since last week when Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the invasion.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"section-title\"><\/h2>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The world\u2019s three biggest shipping lines have suspended non-essential deliveries to Russia, joining a\u00a0growing list of companies\u00a0shunning Moscow amid Western sanctions over its invasion of Ukraine.
