Timberlink\u2019s Tarpeena sawmill, located in South Australia, is undergoing a multi-million-dollar expansion. The project will include an upgrade the existing sawmill and the construction of Australia\u2019s first cross laminated timber (CLT) and glue laminated timber (GLT) manufacturing plant, which will be co-located on the sawmill\u2019s site.<\/p>\n
In speaking about the sawmill\u2019s expansion, Timberlink chief executive Ian Tyson said the increased sawmill production \u201cwill start to flow through into the market in the next several months.\u201d<\/p>\n
Regarding the CLT\/GLT manufacturing plant, Mr. Tyson said, \u201cThe material that goes into the CLT plant is not coming out of the marketplace. It\u2019s coming from the expanded production that we\u2019ve invested in, and it\u2019s also coming from less desired material that the Australian builders are less likely to take.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a whole new market and a whole new opportunity for timber in a transformed, value-added form to be utilized in construction,\u201d Mr Tyson added, saying that the products were \u201ctremendously environmentally friendly.\u201d<\/p>\n
Timberlink expects the CLT\/GLT facility to be fully operational by September 2023 with the products being used in high-rise buildings and sport facilities across Australia.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
