Holmen managed to double its annual sales, SCA's wood division reported a 12% rise in net sales for 2021, while Setra has seen a considerable rise both in annual sales as well as in operating profits.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Holmen wood products division more than doubles annual sales<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Net sales for Swedish sawmiller Holmen\u2019s wood products division more than doubled for the full year 2021 to SEK4.8bn (2020: SEK2.22bn).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Operating profits for the vision also grew extensively to SEK1.66bn (2020: SEK185m).<\/p>\n<p>Annual production and deliveries for the group\u2019s sawmills expanded to 1.46 million m3 (2020: 1.02 million m3) and 1.37 million m3 (2020: 1.05 million m3) respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The increase in profit was attributable to substantially higher selling prices, at the same time that volumes increased through the acquisition of Martinsons and the expansion of Braviken sawmill.<\/p>\n<p>Holmen said that although wood products markets peaked last autumn and prices decreased in Q4, inventory levels in the US were low and prices turned upwards towards the turn of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough our profit from wood products decreased in the fourth quarter due to lower prices, it remained high at SEK350m,\u201d Holmen said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the quarter we decided to invest SEK400m to increase both capacity and the level of value added at Iggesund Sawmill. The investment is yet another step in developing the wood products business and contributing to the green transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCA\u2019s wood division posts 12% net sales growth in 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SCA\u2019s wood division recorded earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) of SEK2.98bn (2020: SEK657m), up by 352% on the previous year mainly due to higher selling prices.<\/p>\n<p>For Q4, 2021 net sales increased 25% to SEK1.86bn (2020 Q4: SEK1.49bn).<\/p>\n<p>Deliveries reduced by 19% to 2.06 million m3 (2020: 2.55 million m3).<\/p>\n<p>SCA is one of Europe\u2019s leading suppliers of wood-based products for the wood industry and building materials trade, with an annual production capacity of 2.2 million m3 of solid-wood products. SCA has five sawmills located close to its forest holdings in Northern Sweden, as well as wood processing and distribution to the building materials trade in Scandinavia and France.<\/p>\n<p>SCA\u2019s wider group results, incorporating all aspects of the business, showed net sales of SEK18.82bn (2020: SEK18.41bn), an increase of 2%, of which price\/mix accounted for 28%, discontinuations -15%, divestments -9%, currency -3% and volume 1%.<\/p>\n<p>Excluding the negative effects from the discontinuation of publication paper operations and the divestment of Wood Supply UK in the fourth quarter of 2020, net sales increased by 26%.<\/p>\n<p>EBITDA increased to SEK9.10bn (2020: SEK4.44bn), corresponding to an EBITDA margin of 48.4%. The change was mainly attributable to higher selling prices in all product areas and a good productivity development, which were partly offset by negative exchange rate effects.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setra says prices stabilise at relatively high level after Q4 downturn<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"standfirst\">\n<p>Sweden-based wood products company Setra has reported a 2021 annual operating profit of SEK1.58bn (2020: SEK117m).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Net sales totalled SEK 5.84bn (2020: SEK4.13bn), while the company generated Q4 operating profit of SEK369m (2020 Q4: SEK61m) with corresponding quarterly net sales of SEK1.56bn (2020: SEK1.08bn).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the start of Q4, the wood products market was very hesitant and prices saw a significant downturn,\u201d said Katarina Levin, Setra\u2019s CEO.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, they stabilised at a relatively high level and contract activity finished strongly ahead of Q1 2022.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of October, Setra announced its decision to invest a total of SEK100m in high-capacity drying kilns for Heby and Hasselfors.<\/p>\n<p>The increase in drying capacity in Heby and Hasselfors is an important element in the ongoing development of Setra\u2019s operations in Bergslagen.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the company decided to invest in a new saw line in Skinnskatteberg, and last year a new rip saw was installed at the sawmill in Nyby.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Three of Sweden&#8217;s largest sawmilling groups, SCA, Holmen and Setra posted more than expected financial results for 2021.
