The Austrian competition authorities approved the acquisition of Bergkvist Siljan AB by\u00a0Mayr-Melnhof Holz, one of the leading companies in the European sawmill and wood processing industry, thus completing the acquisition.<\/p>\n

Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG, headquartered in Leoben, Austria, signed the contract in December last year to acquire the Swedish sawmill group Bergkvist Siljan AB (publ.)<\/p>\n

The production units in Insj\u00f6n, Mora and Blyberg (all in Dalarna) complement the existing sawmills in Leoben (Austria), Paskov (Czech Republic), and Efimovkij (Russia), making Mayr-Melnhof Holz, with\u00a05 million cubic meters of timber\u00a0processing capacity,\u00a0Europe's third largest sawmill company.\u00a0For the first time in its 170-year history, sales are expected to exceed EUR 1 billion during the 2022 financial year.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very much looking forward to working with our new Swedish colleagues.\u00a0Together, we will realize and build on the synergy and growth potential that exists in both sales and other operations, as well as strengthen our common market position,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>says Richard Stralz, CEO of Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG.\u00a0The brand and the existing company management in Bergkvist Siljan will remain as before.<\/p>\n

Bergkvist Siljan produces around 850,000 cubic meters of sawn goods annually from both spruce and pine.\u00a0The group consists of three modern sawmills and one of Sweden's largest container terminals, with a capacity of up to 50,000 TEUs per year, and has a direct railway connection to the port of Gothenburg.<\/p>\n

Michael Wolfram, CFO Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG,\u00a0adds:\u00a0\u201cBergkvist Siljan, with a turnover of almost 300 million euros, has 285 employees. Both Mayr-Melnhof Holz and Bergkvist Siljan have a long tradition of family ownership for over a hundred years, and together our sales complement each other perfectly.
