Analysts predicted that 2021 would be a new record year for the Swedish sawmill industry as early as last autumn. With over 19 million cubic meters of sawn goods produced, even the high hopes were exceeded.<\/p>\n

The trade association Svenskt Tr\u00e4 (Swedish Wood) reports on the 2021 sawmill season with a new production record that exceeded the previous calculations. According to Svenskt Tr\u00e4, demand for wood products remains high even if the market moves towards a more stable situation.<\/p>\n

''The production even exceeded our high hopes, which is gratifying. This shows that the Swedish sawmills have worked hard to be able to meet the high demand for wood products that we have seen both in Sweden and globally. The greatest pressure on the wood products market has now eased and we see a more balanced situation,'' says Christian Nielsen, market analyst for wood products at Skogsindustrierna (Swedish Forest Industries Federation).<\/p>\n

The record year has also meant challenges in a market that has offered sharp fluctuations for the wood products industry.<\/p>\n

Historical fluctuations<\/strong><\/p>\n

''It goes down in history with many fluctuations and broken records. I am convinced that it will be just as interesting to follow what happens in 2022,'' says Mathias Fridholm, director of Svenskt Tr\u00e4.<\/p>\n

During the beginning of 2022, according to Svenskt Tr\u00e4, they will continue to ride the wave that swept through 2021. Both in the short and long term, the market looks good and is further strengthened through reforms such as climate declarations for new buildings.<\/p>\n

''Even when we look a little further ahead, we believe in increased demand, as, for example, wood construction will continue to take market share. From 1 January this year, there will be a law on climate declarations for new buildings, which will probably mean that interest in building in wood will increase even more.
