The average price of imported softwood lumber increased by 27% to $222 per cubic meter.<\/p>\n<p>Brazil is the only country able to increase its supply of softwood to China in 2021, with Brazilian exports to China increasing by 33.2%.\u00a0Softwood lumber exports to China from Canada, Germany and Finland all fell sharply by 57%, 50% and 32% respectively.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, a total of 63.58 million cubic meters of domestic logs where imported by China, an increase of 6.9% over the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p>Looking at the monthly data, we can notice that the increase in log imports in 2021 is mainly concentrated in the first half of the year.<\/p>\n<p>Especially in May 2021, Chinese log imports increased by as much as 60.5% year-on-year.\u00a0In the second half of the year, the volume of log imports showed a decline ranging from 3% to 17%.<\/p>\n<p>In 2021, both the prices for China's log and lumber imports have seen a sharp rise in prices.
