On January 1, 2022, a complete ban on the export of unprocessed or roughly processed timber of softwood and valuable hardwood species came into force.\u00a0The ban has been introduced by order of the Russian President\u00a0Vladimir Putin\u00a0back in September 2020.<\/p>\n

Then the president sharply criticized the state of the timber industry in Russia and especially in the Far East.<\/p>\n

In addition to the ban, the president demanded the creation and launch of a unified information system of the forestry complex, as well as an electronic forest register for all regions of Russia, through which it would be possible to track the movement of raw materials.\u00a0Since January 2021, the system has been operational in test mode, and since July 2021 it has become mandatory and has been extended to the entire country and the forestry industry.<\/p>\n

At the same time, restrictions and stricter monitoring did not prevent Russia from setting an absolute record for wood exports abroad in 2021. Export growth in monetary terms by 38 percent, to $ 12.5 billion.
