The increase in logging is mainly due to increased forest destruction caused by bark beetles during hot and dry periods. Bark beetle timber accounts for more than half (53.8%) of the total timber felled in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>According to statistics, of the approximately 60.1 million cubic meters of damaged timber cut down in 2020, the beetle wood is as high as 43.3 million cubic meters, accounting for as much as 72.05%. This year, the wetter and cooler weather in Europe as a whole suppressed the expansion of pests and greatly reduced the number of pests in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>According to a report by the German Federal Statistical Office, the number of beetle wood felled in 2020 was almost 13 times that of 2015; only 3.3 million cubic meters of damaged beetle wood was felled in 2015.
