In the first half of 2021, the German market for lumber was characterized by enormous price increases and, at times, poor product availability.<\/p>\n

Due to the very high demand, the German sawmill industry found it difficult to fulfill some of its contracts in the spring, while the retail sector was confronted with very high demand and difficult procurement - this situation led to considerable price jumps in the spring of this year.<\/p>\n

There was a severe shortage of wood and considerable increases in construction costs. The situation led to inventory purchases in the supply chain, which in turn led to a further shortage of product ranges. The German sawmill industry has produced at a record level, trade and craft were confronted with a very receptive market.<\/p>\n

However, from August 2021 the situation on the market has been different, with enough timber assortments available for the German wood processing industry and other processing industries.<\/p>\n

''Lumber\u00a0has again reached a competitive price level and the industry is assuming that the supply will become scarcer in the 1st quarter of 2022,\" said GD Holz (German Timber Trade Federation)\u00a0board member Maximilian Habisreutinger.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

GD Holz points out that lumber assortments and the corresponding raw material are currently hardly scarce, but there will be enough wood currently and in the future from local forestry as well as from wood imports for processing.<\/p>\n

GD Holz says situation like at the beginning of the year should not repeat itself. \"Good sales and an overall adequate calculation for all those involved in the value chain increase the appreciation for the raw material and are to be assessed positively,\" says GD Holz Managing Director Thomas Goebel.<\/p>\n

Due to the good economic activity in timber construction in Germany and Europe, GD Holz believes that there will also be good sales opportunities for lumber ranges in the coming year.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
