The European Commission has approved permanent import duties on birch plywood from Russia, which were previously introduced temporarily.\u00a0Anti-dumping measures, experts say, will force Russian domestic producers to reconsider the geography of export supplies, as well as raise prices for panel products.<\/p>\n

According to the publication of the\u00a0Official Journal of the EU<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>dated November 9, 2021, the amount of duties is not uniform and differs from temporary ones.\u00a0So, for the company \"Sveza\" it will be 14.4%, and for Vyatsky FC - 14.85%.<\/p>\n

The business publication RBC published a comment by Boris Frenkel, director for government relations at Sveza.\u00a0Assessing the situation, he noted that the decision of the Eurocom is unfair.\u00a0Sveza, as the largest producer of birch plywood in the world, has not been and is not engaged in dumping for supplies both to European markets and to other regions, \u201dthe top manager explained.\u00a0In addition, he added that dumping is ineffective in the highly competitive plywood market.\u00a0Probably, the Sveza company will challenge the duties imposed by the European Commission in court.<\/p>\n

According to the President of Segezha Group Mikhail Shamolin, which is also reported by RBC, the decision of Eurocom is politically motivated.\u00a0\u201cFrom an economic point of view, the decision does not make sense, as it helps a small number of plywood producers in Europe to make money, while at the same time creating losses for an incomparably larger number of consumers,\u201d he explained.\u00a0Mikhail Shamolin also added that Segezha Group intends to redistribute part of its export plywood to other markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
