The Swedish wood products industry is expected to break new production records this year.<\/p>\n

After a time of historically strong demand, the pressure seems to ease somewhat, shows the Swedish Forest Industries' latest market report, which also reports unexpectedly high prices for printing paper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

After a period with the lowest stock levels in 20 years, the Swedish sawmills have finally been able to build up a certain buffer.\u00a0This year, timber production is expected to break production records by 18.9 million cubic meters.<\/p>\n

''During the pandemic, there has been a global demand for wood products of a rarely seen kind, but now we see the first tendencies to a change of trend and that the market may have calmed down somewhat.\u00a0On the whole, I hope that we will be able to see a more stable development in the future,'' says Christian Nielsen, analyst in wood products at Skogsindustrierna.<\/p>\n

As demand for wood products declines, there are signs of a more subdued economic recovery in the euro area and China.<\/p>\n

''Development is slowed down by problems such as lack of containers and record high freight, raw material and energy prices.\u00a0It creates bottlenecks that affect the continued economic recovery globally and drive inflation.\u00a0The forest industry is also being affected to an increasing extent as the pressure on the market eases,'' says Kerstin Hallsten, chief economist at Skogsindustrierna.<\/p>\n

Two Swedish pulp and paper mills have been closed down in 2021, and now the price of printing paper is rising.<\/p>\n

''There are indications that there is a shortage of printing paper. Demand, delivery times and prices are increasing. However, despite the increase, prices are lower than in 2019 and the assessment is that both demand and Swedish production of graphic paper will decrease in the future,'' says Katrin Heinsoo, analyst in paper and pulp at Skogsindustrierna.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
