Latvia's timber market is currently experiencing rising prices for roundwood, which have been affected by global market movements and also by Covid 19. This is especially true for softwood sawlogs, where unprecedented price levels have been reached, allowing Latvian forest owners to sell pine sawlogs with more than 135 EUR\/m3.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

In the first half of this year, compared to last year, the average purchase price of logs in Latvia has increased for nearly all assortments, according to the latest data of the Central Statistical Bureau.<\/span><\/p>\n

The largest price increase - by 20.81 euros per cubic meter - was for pine sawlogs with a diameter of 14\u201318 cm, spruce sawlogs with a diameter of over 26 cm - by 15.96 euros, as well as birch veneer logs (category A) - by 11.78 euros per cubic meter.<\/p>\n

In turn, the price reduction affected only birch sawlogs with a diameter of 18\u201324 cm - from 49.34 euros in 2020 to 47.21 euros this year.<\/p>\n

Currently, the Latvian lumber market has seen the highest prices in the last ten years, ranging from 30 to 50%.<\/p>\n

In mid-June, the purchase price of pine and spruce sawlogs in Latvia reached 125 euros per cubic meter, but over the summer the prices of sawlogs increased by another 20\u201330 euros per cubic meter.<\/p>\n

However, such rapid price increases are not long-lasting and it is to be expected that the market prices of roundwood will stabilize and the prices will start to fall.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
