Czech forest owners can no longer count on the state to compensate them for low prices with huge sums. Wood has become more expensive, the ministry argues.<\/em><\/p>\n

Municipal and private Czech forest landowners are starting to submit their latest applications for extraordinary subsidies, which they have become accustomed to in recent years. The last time they reached 3.6 billion crowns (EUR 141 million), which compensates for the low prices of wood resulted from the bark beetle infestation. They will be paid at the end of this year and at the beginning of next year. \"We announced that with a significant increase in the price of raw wood, it is pointless at the moment that we continue to pay compensation for the reduced monetization of wood. In 2020, wood prices were still low. Already this year, it turns out that the continuation of the payment of this compensation would not be relevant, \"said Patrik Mlyn\u00e1\u0159, Deputy Minister of Agriculture for Forestry, to the SZ Byznys editorial staff.<\/p>\n

Neither municipalities nor private individuals deny the sharp rise in calamity wood this year. While at the time of the biggest crisis in recent years, a cubic meter of bark beetle was sold for only 400 crowns (EUR 16\/m3), this year the price has approached 2000 crowns (EUR 73\/m3).<\/p>\n

However, the owners do not agree with the termination of the compensation program, for several reasons. \"High wood prices are a benefit only for those who have something to benefit from, so the argument is not entirely correct and compensation should continue,\" thinks Ji\u0159\u00ed Svoboda, chairman of the Association of Municipal and Private Forest Owners (SVOL).<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Agriculture argues that the termination of the forest owner's program will not do so much harm, because the resort is going to increase funds in another program. For next year, it expects to release funds in the amount of four billion crowns for forest regeneration (EUR 156 million).<\/p>\n

\"There is an odd fear that municipal and private forest owners will not have the money for afforestation and forest management. Compared to the previous year, on the other hand, there will be an increase in funding by 1.7 billion crowns, \"says Mlyn\u00e1\u0159 from the ministry. Last year, however, the state paid foresters 9 billion crowns (EUR 352 million) to fight the bark beetle, which was also a record.<\/p>\n

The chairman of SVOL points out that the money is usually long-awaited and it is uncertain whether the aid will reach the forest owners in time next year.<\/p>\n

\"It wasn't until April that we received the money for 2019, and it's going on. Not everyone has the money to pay for work, trees for restoration and other things related to caring for the forest, \"he said.<\/p>\n
