Spruce log prices up 35% yoy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p><em>The\u00a0wood prices\u00a0have risen\u00a0sharply\u00a0recently.\u00a0However, the price increase for German forest owners was much more moderate than for the sawmill industry.\u00a0According to the data from the Federal Statistical Office, the prices for\u00a0spruce\u00a0logs July were almost 35 percent higher than in the previous year.\u00a0At the same time, the\u00a0industrial selling prices\u00a0(producer prices for commercial products) were 123 percent higher for softwood lumber, according to the Destatis surveys.\u00a0The prices for industry and trade have risen four times as strongly as the prices at the producer level.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper clearfix left\">\n<div class=\"textflow\">\n<div id=\"attachment_26817\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\">\n<div id=\"attachment_26817\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26817\" class=\"wp-image-26817 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"188\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>For spruce sections 2b +, 110.00 to 115.00 \u20ac were paid on the spot market at the end of the 2nd quarter.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-26817\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<\/div>\n<p>Nevertheless, German forest owners were\u00a0significantly more satisfied\u00a0with the\u00a0spruce\u00a0wood prices than in the previous year: In its Holmarkt report at the beginning of the second quarter, the Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture (STMELF) still reports prices for spruce sections 2b + of just over 90.00 euros per solid cubic meter .<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the 2nd quarter, prices of 110.00 to 115.00 \u20ac were already being paid on the spot markets for the same range.\u00a0For fresh spruce long logs (B-qualities, 2b), according to the STMELF's surveys, between \u20ac 105.00 and a peak of \u20ac 120.00 were offered.\u00a0The discounts for beetle qualities were in most cases \u20ac 10.00 to \u20ac 25.00 per cubic meter and were therefore significantly lower than in previous years.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper clearfix left\">\n<p class=\"paragraph_subline\"><strong>Pine log price follow spruce trend\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"textflow\">\n<p>The prices for\u00a0pine\u00a0and Douglas fir also benefited from the sharp rise in spruce\u00a0prices\u00a0.\u00a0However, the recovery was much more moderate.\u00a0According to the data from Desatis, the prices for pine logs in July were almost 16 percent higher than in the previous year and almost 7 percent higher than in June.\u00a0The prices for Douglas fir were, however, only 9 percent higher than in the previous year and even slightly lower than in the previous month.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_26819\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\">\n<div id=\"attachment_26819\" style=\"width: 306px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ2-9.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26819\" class=\"wp-image-26819 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ2-9.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"296\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-26819\" class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>For pine logs, prices for fresh wood were mostly over \u20ac 85.00 per cubic meter.<\/em><\/p><\/div>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-26819\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<\/div>\n<p>The Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture (STMELF) also reported that the market for pine logs has picked up in the wake of the very strong demand for spruce.\u00a0For fresh wood, prices up to over \u20ac 85.00 per solid cubic meter were paid.\u00a0The demand for Douglas fir and larch logs also remained high as prices continued to rise.\u00a0Regionally, despite the larger supply, the demand could not be satisfied, reports the STMELF.<\/p>\n<p>The price index for softwood lumber and wood-based materials for wooden packaging and pallets is determined monthly by the Bundesverband Holzpackmittel-Paletten-Exportverpackung (HPE) in cooperation with the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universit\u00e4t Bonn.\u00a0The HPE index has been rising sharply for months: since spring there have been double-digit increases every month: In June the index showed a price increase of 145 percent within a year.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper clearfix left\">\n<p class=\"paragraph_subline\"><strong>Hardwood does not benefit from the rally<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"textflow\">\n<div id=\"attachment_26820\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\">\n<div id=\"attachment_26820\" style=\"width: 295px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ3-10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-26820\" class=\"wp-image-26820 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/germ3-10.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 285px) sharply.\u00a0However, there was also a far less marked decline in the previous year.\u00a0According to the data from the Federal Statistical Office, the prices for beech wood for forest owners in July were only 4 percent higher than in the previous year and even slightly lower than in June.\u00a0For oak, the prices were only 3 percent higher year-on-year than in the previous year and were also lower than in June.<\/p>\n<p>The Bavarian Ministry of Agriculture nevertheless believes that the mood among the hardwood processing companies in Germany has brightened somewhat.\u00a0In any case, forest owners assess the current business situation better than at the end of 2020.
