The stock prices of softwood logs were 15 per cent higher in August than in August of the previous year.\u00a0The price of birch logs was 6 percent higher than a year ago.\u00a0Pulp prices increased by 4\u20137 per cent.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

High raw material costs weaken the competitive position of the Finnish forest industry in international markets.<\/p>\n

In August, an average of EUR 62 per cubic meter was paid for pine logs, but the price varied between EUR 36 and EUR 66 by region and felling destination.\u00a0The average price of a spruce log was 66 euros per cubic meter, and the price varied between 36 and 69 euros.\u00a0The average price of birch logs was 45 euros per cubic meter, and the price varied between 30 and 51 euros.\u00a0The average price of pulpwood was 18\u201320 euros per cubic meter, and the price varied between 11 and 24 euros.<\/p>\n

There are several reasons for the variation in prices.\u00a0The price level is affected by, among other things, the total amount of timber to be harvested, the quality of the timber, the size of the trunks, the felling method, the forest and long-distance transport distance, the terrain and the time and conditions of harvesting.\u00a0Therefore, the price of wood may vary significantly even in adjacent forest sites.<\/p>\n

In January-August, the member companies of the Finnish Forest Industries Association bought 24.5 million cubic meters of wood from private forests, which is 48 per cent more than in the corresponding period of the previous year.\u00a0The timber trade was also more active in the summer than in previous years.<\/p>\n

In January-August, the purchase volume of logs was 12.2 million cubic meters, which is 76 per cent more than in the corresponding period last year. The purchase volume of pulpwood was 11.3 million cubic meters, which is 26 percent more than in the previous year.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
