High demand for wood has led to a sharp increase in prices in Estonia, and compared to last year, for example, the price of spruce logs has risen by as much as 80 percent.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Estonian forestry expert Heiki Hepner says that the current situation in the timber market is unprecedented.\u00a0Although the price of hardwood logs is also high, the prices of softwood logs stand out.<\/p>\n

According to the analysis of the Estonian Private Forest Center, the price of pine logs had risen to 88 euros\/m3 by June, a year earlier it was 78 euros per cubic meter.\u00a0The price of spruce logs has also risen from 68 euros to 80 euros.<\/p>\n

Hepner predicted that the price of softwood logs could reach 100 euros\/m3 in the autumn.<\/p>\n

The prices of hardwood logs do not show a significant increase, but the price of birch logs, for example, also remains high at 70 euros\/m3.<\/p>\n

As demand exceeds supply, Hepner says wood processing companies are willing to buy wood at any price to alleviate the drought in building materials.<\/p>\n

Henrik V\u00e4lja, CEO of the Estonian Forest and Wood Industry Association, confirmed that there has indeed been a moment for producers when timber was in deficit, but believes that this situation has now been overcome.<\/p>\n

At the global level, Hepner identified the growth in demand for investment as the most important price carrier.\u00a0He admitted that as more money is printed in the world, this in turn has created a deficit in the timber market.<\/p>\n

However, the price increase is expected to slow down soon, as the normal situation should be restored.<\/p>\n

Hepner predicted that although timber prices are likely to remain high in the third quarter of 2021, a fall in prices could be expected thereafter.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
