In early August, China's timber demand has started to pick up. The rainy weather in many regions of the country has significantly reduced, and demand has gradually recovered.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

Last week's (09-15 August) log import volume in China increased by 2.78% month-on-month, and the transaction volume increased by 2.21%. Among the representative species, the imported softwood market ushered in a turbulent upward trend this week under the stimulus of various news. The sales volume of Pinus sylvestris in Southwest Sichuan this week was 9.87% more than that of earlier this week, the transaction volume increased by 8.6%, and the average transaction price was 1,610 Yuan\/cubic meter.<\/p>\n

As for spruce, although the decline has not changed, the decline in transaction volume has been significantly narrowed. This week's sales volume fell by 2.52% compared with last week, and the average transaction price was 1,660 yuan\/cubic meter.<\/p>\n

Market participants believe in mid-August, rain and weather in some areas have decreased, construction sites have resumed activity, and the demand for wood has also been increasing, so the overall situation is improving. It should be noted that there are still some areas in the country that are still in a difficult stage of the pandemic, and construction sites and material transportation are hindered. However, in the second half of the year, China is in the traditional construction period, and the demand is expected to gradually release, and the overall timber market demand to improve.<\/p>\n

Moreover, in the second half of the year, a series of major projects in China will start intensively, and 2.6 trillion yuan in infrastructure investment will underpin the demand for the construction industry.
