Finnish sawmilling company Kalajokinen Junnikkala Oy plans to build a new sawmill in Oulu.<\/em><\/p>\n

The new sawmill would increase the use of Junnikkala logs by 650,000 cubic meters per year.\u00a0The sawmill would produce 300,000 cubic meters of sawn timber per year.\u00a0An estimated 90 percent of this would end up being exported through the Port of Oulu.<\/p>\n

Following the investment, Junnikkala would produce a total of 750,000 cubic meters of sawn and planed goods annually.\u00a0Purchases of logs would reach 1.4 million cubic meters per year.\u00a0Net sales would increase to an estimated EUR 250 million per year.<\/p>\n

According to the company's press release, the investment will be made possible by the growth in demand for timber as a renewable raw material and the positive future prospects of the industry.<\/p>\n

Construction of the sawmill is scheduled to begin next year and be completed in 2023. The \u20ac 70 million investment is the largest in the company\u2019s 60-year history.<\/p>\n

Junnikkala already has production facilities in Kalajoki and Oulainen.\u00a0The company directly employs 150 people.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
