Timber import prices in China have started to fall in mid-May and continued the downward trend at the beginning of June.<\/em><\/p>\n

The radiata pine and white pine timber price in Jiangsu area fell by 20 yuan\/m3 (EUR 2.5\/m3);\u00a0 radiata pine timber price in Shandong area fell by 30 yuan\/m3 (EUR 3.9\/m3), and the hemlock and white pine fell by 20 yuan\/m3\u00a0(EUR 2.5\/m3)\u00a0in Chongqing. The radiata pine price fell by 50 yuan\/m3 (EUR 6.4\/m3) in Guangdong market, and the spruce timber fell by 20 yuan\/m3\u00a0(EUR 2.5\/m3).<\/p>\n

Timber import prices are constantly fluctuating under the influence of supply and demand.\u00a0Normally, the fluctuation range is small, and the overall situation is relatively stable.\u00a0However, due to the impact of the pandemic and the unstable global economic environment, the price of wood in China has been soaring this year.<\/p>\n

In some cases, compared with the same period last year, the price of wood has doubled. International sea freight has also tripled, and the overall cost has increased by one-third to one-half.<\/p>\n

In late May, the price increase of imported timber in China suddenly reversed and started to fall.\u00a0The scenario of skyrocketing and plummeting is once again staged in the timber industry.<\/p>\n

At the beginning of the price increase, in the face of rising raw materials and exchange rate fluctuations, Chinese processing plants tried to reduce profits and stabilize prices to obtain orders.\u00a0\u00a0The goal of many Chinese timber companies now is not to lose money and to persist in surviving.<\/p>\n
