{"id":80647,"date":"2021-04-28T04:42:38","date_gmt":"2021-04-28T04:42:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/considerable-rise-uk-timber-panel-imports\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:55:12","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:55:12","slug":"considerable-rise-uk-timber-panel-imports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/considerable-rise-uk-timber-panel-imports\/","title":{"rendered":"Considerable rise in UK timber and panel imports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>The recovery in UK import volume seen in the second half of 2020 continued in January 2021 with timber and panel imports 12% higher than in January 2020.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The volume of solid timber and panel products imported in January 2021 totalled 895,000m3, a 100,000m3 rise from January 2020\u2019s total imports of 795,000m3.<\/p>\n<p>When comparing January 2021 with January 2020 the statistics revealed that among the individual product categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Softwood import volumes rose by 22% (530,000m3).<\/li>\n<li>Hardwood import volumes fell by 5.5% (38,000m3).<\/li>\n<li>Softwood plywood import volumes rose by 24% (82,000m3).<\/li>\n<li>Particleboard import volumes fell by 42% (41,000m3)<\/li>\n<li>OSB import volumes rose 135% (58,000m3).<\/li>\n<li>MDF import volumes fell by 22.5% (60,000m3)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The increase in import volumes comes amidst a resurgent housing market, with housing starts up by 26% in UK in Q4 2020 as compared to Q4 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/UKtimberimports-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-25912\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/UKtimberimports-3-300x165.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 407px) 100vw, 407px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/UKtimberimports-3-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/UKtimberimports-3.jpg 1001w\" alt=\"\" width=\"407\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A growth in overall wood product imports could be noticed in UK amidst a competitive international market which is keeping supply tight the world over, and a surge in construction in the UK,\u00a0David Hopkins, CEO of the Timber Trade Federation, said. \u201cThis growth is being supported by a buoyant housing market, a government eager to invest, and consumers choosing to spend money saved during the pandemic on home improvements, with some \u00a3160 billion saved during the last year.\u201c<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The recovery in UK import volume seen in the second half of 2020 continued in January 2021 with timber and panel imports 12% higher than in January 2020.
