The turnover of the German wood industry was around \u20ac 36.5 billion last year and thus 0.8 percent above the previous year's level.\u00a0In particular, the construction-related area of \u200b\u200bthe wood industry developed positively.<\/h4>\n

\"Against the background of the negative effects of the pandemic and the dramatic 5 percent slump in the German economy, this is impressive evidence of the high demand for sustainable and ecological building products made of wood,\" said Dr.\u00a0Denny Ohnesorge, General Manager of the Main Association of the German Timber Industry (HDH).<\/p>\n

As the largest segment of the wood industry, the furniture industry generated sales of \u20ac 17.2 billion due to the pandemic, a significant drop of 3.7 percent.\u00a0Since the beginning of 2021, however, the situation has become much more difficult.\u00a0The second, even longer lockdown hits furniture manufacturers in what is actually the best-selling time of the year.\u00a0The further development therefore remains to be seen.<\/p>\n

In contrast, the construction-related area - this includes not only prefabricated wood construction but also the manufacture of windows, doors, stairs and other wood-based construction elements - increased its sales by an impressive 10.2 percent to \u20ac 6.8 billion.\u00a0The other segments of the wood industry such as the wood packaging industry with plus 0.2 percent, the wood-based materials industry with plus 0.9 percent and the sawmill industry with plus 6 percent also recorded positive sales growth.<\/p>\n

In 2020, the German wood industry employed a total of 156,282 men and women in 931 companies with 50 or more employees. Compared to the previous year, the number of companies rose by a minimal 0.2 percent, while the number of employees fell slightly by 0.4 percent.<\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
