Despite the coronavirus pandemic which first hit China and then spread all over the world, European softwood lumber exports to China managed to rise in volume by 12% in 2020. However, the growth is still considerably lower as in 2019, when exports increased by 37% as compared to 2018.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

The European Union countries sent 3.93 million m3 of softwood lumber to China, during 2020, as compared to the 3.4 million m3 that they've sent in 2019. In value, European exports went up by 8% in 2020 and reached EUR 576 million (2019: EUR 532 million).<\/p>\n

The biggest exporter was still Finland, although its shipments decreased by -20% as compared to January-December 2020.<\/p>\n

Sweden, Germany and Belgium topped the highest growths in exports to China. Swedish exports rose by 16%, up to 825 thousand m3. The German softwood lumber exports to China had a great 2020, and increased by 29%, up to 767 thousand m3. Belgium's deliveries, though at a lower volume, hiked by 137%, up to 381 thousand m3.<\/p>\n
