As usual for the middle of the heating season, the price of wood pellets has increased in Central and Western European countries in January 2021.<\/em><\/p>\n

Germania<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the beginning of the year, the price for wood pellets in Germany was on an upward trend.\u00a0The return to the regular VAT rate of 7% in Germany has resulted in a slight price increase.<\/p>\n

One ton (t) of pellets costs an average of \u20ac 238.05 in January (purchase of 6 t).\u00a0That is 2.1% more than in December 2020, but 9.2% less than a year ago.\u00a0The kilo price is accordingly 23.81 cents, the kilowatt hour (kWh) of heat from pellets costs 4.76 cents.<\/p>\n

Regarding the price of wood pellets, the following regional differences arise in January 2021 (purchase quantity 6 t): In southern Germany, the price for pellets is again cheapest at 235.70 \u20ac \/ t.\u00a0In central Germany it is 236.63 \u20ac \/ t, in the north \/ east region it is 244.74 \u20ac \/ t.<\/p>\n

Larger quantities (26 t) will be traded in January 2021 under the following conditions:<\/p>\n

South: \u20ac 221.29\/t; Central: \u20ac 220.19\/t, North\/East: \u20ac 229.48 \/ t (all including VAT).<\/p>\n

Austria<\/strong><\/p>\n

The average price of wood pellets in Austria was 23.14 cents per kg of\u00a0pellets\u00a0or 4.72 Cent per kWh in January. As compared to the same month of last year, the price has decreased by -5.6%, while compared to December 2020, the price is +0.2% higher.<\/p>\n

Wood pellets in Austria currently offer a price advantage of 27.o % as opposed to extra light heating oil and 71.5 % as opposed to natural gas.<\/p>\n

Wood pellets in bags cost an average of \u20ac\u00a04.04\u00a0per 15 kg bag (when ordered by the pallet):<\/p>\n

\n\u2022 Compared to the previous month: + 0.5 %<\/p>\n

Switzerland<\/strong><\/p>\n

Pellet prices in Switzerland partly continued their upward trend in January 2021. On average, they reached a value of 359.3 CHF \/ t (+ 0.2%) - after an increase of 1% to 358.6 CHF \/ t in December 2020. Compared to January 2020 (374.5 CHF \/ t) there us still a minus 4% price difference. Depending on the purchase quantity, the individual prices developed in different directions:<\/p>\n
