{"id":79910,"date":"2020-10-15T09:47:55","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T09:47:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/uks-wood-products-imports-show-strong-market-recovery\/"},"modified":"2025-09-18T17:20:36","modified_gmt":"2025-09-18T17:20:36","slug":"uks-wood-products-imports-show-strong-market-recovery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/uks-wood-products-imports-show-strong-market-recovery\/","title":{"rendered":"UK\u2019s wood products imports show strong market recovery"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"article-content\">\n<p>UK's timber and panel import volumes are \u2018back on track\u2019 for 2020 following a sharp rise in July, according to the latest timber statistics for July 2020.<span id=\"more-24656\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>A Timber Trade Federation (TTF) report reveals total import volumes for main timber and panel products were approximately only 1% below July 2019 levels, with 866,000m3 arriving in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The difference in volumes between the two months (July 2020 and July 2019) was the lowest percentage reduction in volume since April 2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ttf-5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-24657 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ttf-5-212x300.jpg\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 212px) 100vw, 212px\" srcset=\"https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ttf-5-212x300.jpg 212w, https:\/\/timberindustrynews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/09\/ttf-5.jpg 596w\" alt=\"\" width=\"212\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a>These volumes were higher than the TTF originally predicted and raise the TTF\u2019s forecast for total timber imports to the UK in 2020 to around 8.4 million m3 (approx. 19% lower than 2019).<\/p>\n<p>Imports across all major individual product categories, softwood, hardwood, and panel products, have been on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>For the first time in 2020, UK's softwood import volumes exceeded 2019 levels as 580,000m3 were imported in July 2020 compared to 514,000m3 in July 2019.<\/p>\n<p>UK's hardwood imports increased to 40,000 m3 in July 2020, which, while still 5,000m3 below July 2019 figures, represents a 54% increase over June 2020.<\/p>\n<p>UK's imports for panel products have increased during June and July, with OSB and MDF leading the way.<\/p>\n<p>OSB imports in July 2020 were 46,000m3, a 48% increase from the volumes seen in June 2020, and 8,000m3 more than July 2019 (38,000m3).<\/p>\n<p>MDF imports for June and July are almost double May\u2019s imports (27,000m3), reaching 57,000m3 in June and 52,000m3 in July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>David Hopkins, CEO of the Timber Trade Federation, said: \u201cThese figures are a good signal of a strengthening market. They will go some way to helping rebuild stocks and meet rising demand for timber products.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe huge surge we\u2019ve seen in DIY projects along with increased global demand has been unprecedented and caused spikes and longer lead times across certain product categories.
