{"id":79704,"date":"2020-09-03T08:03:16","date_gmt":"2020-09-03T08:03:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/chinese-timber-supply-chain-disrupted-massive-imports-european-infested-softwood\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:53:57","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:53:57","slug":"chinese-timber-supply-chain-disrupted-massive-imports-european-infested-softwood","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/chinese-timber-supply-chain-disrupted-massive-imports-european-infested-softwood\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese timber supply chain disrupted by massive imports of European infested softwood"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>In the first half of 2020, the total import and export volume of my China's timber and wood products trade was 23.025 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 18%.\u00a0Among them, imports were 9.828 billion US dollars, down 17.9%, and exports were 13.197 billion US dollars, down 18%.<\/em><span id=\"more-24288\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In the first half of 2020, China imported 47,827,600 cubic meters of logs + lumber, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%; imports amounted to US$7.218 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 24.3%, and the average unit price was US$151 per cubic meter, a decrease of 10.9%.<\/p>\n<p>The main changes in the regional proportions were that the proportion of North America decreased by 3%, the proportion of New Zealand decreased by 2.7%, and the proportion of Europe increased by 5.1%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Softwood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Softwood logs:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first half of 2020, the imported softwood logs were 17.641 million cubic meters, the amount was 2.019 billion US dollars, and the average unit price was 114 US dollars per cubic meter, down 16.2%, 28.9% and 15% respectively. From the perspective of importing regions, only European softwood increased significantly, while from other regions fell sharply.<\/p>\n<p>Due to softwood forest pests in Europe, logging on the continent has increased considerably. In the first half of the year, the imports of Chinese softwood logs from Europe was 4,807,700 cubic meters, an increase of 121% year-on-year, and the port unit price was US$110\/m, a year-on-year decrease of 11.6%. Among them, the largest number of imports came from Germany (2.82 million cubic meters, an increase of 205.4% year-on-year, accounting for 58.8% of all imports of European softwood logs).\u00a0The large volume and low price of European softwood logs has impacted the Chinese imports from Russia, North America and New Zealand. Chinese imports of Russian softwood logs in the first half of the year decreased by 32.2%, Canadian softwood logs by 55.3%, and US softwood logs by 48.3%, while imports of New Zealand softwood logs dropped by\u00a026.9%.<\/p>\n<p><em>Softwood lumber<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first half of the year, the imported softwood lumber to China was 12,478,800 cubic meters, worth 2.16 billion US dollars, and the unit price was 173 US dollars per cubic meter, down 11.6%, 16.1% and 5.1% respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Chinese imports from Russia and Canada, the two main source countries of imported softwood lumber, both dropped sharply in the first half of the year, down 12% and 45.6% respectively year-on-year; imports of European\u00a0softwood lumber\u00a0increased by 35.4%, of which Belarus saw the largest increase of 147.9%. Mainly because of pests and diseases, Europe has increased the output of\u00a0softwood lumber.<\/p>\n<p>Finnish and Swedish\u00a0softwood lumber producers\u00a0in Northern Europe were forced to lower prices in the first half, and their unit prices also fell sharply, down 17.1% and 20.3% respectively. Imports of Finnish\u00a0softwood lumber\u00a0fell by 16.7% in the first half of the year, while imports of Swedish\u00a0softwood lumber\u00a0increased substantially by 50.1%.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Hardwood<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Hardwood logs:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first half of the year, 6.6108 million cubic meters of hardwood logs were imported in China, with an amount of 1.539 billion US dollars, and an average unit price of 233 US dollars per cubic meter, down 22.3%, 32% and 12.5% \u200b\u200brespectively.\u00a0Among them, tropical logs were 4.135 million cubic meters, down 25.6%, and tropical logs accounted for 62.5% of hardwood logs.\u00a0Temperate hardwood logs were 2,475,800 cubic meters, accounting for 37.5%.\u00a0Temperate hardwood logs mainly come from Russia, Europe, the United States and Canada, of which Russia accounted for 43.5%, an increase of 20.2%.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical hardwood logs mainly come from Africa, Papua New Guinea and Solomon, accounting for 84% of imported tropical logs, down 40.2%, 16.2% and 21.8% respectively.<\/p>\n<p>Several major source countries in Africa have all declined sharply, among which Nigeria basically stopped exporting logs.<\/p>\n<p><em>Hardwood lumber:<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In the first half of the year, the imported\u00a0hardwood lumber to China\u00a0was 4,123,800 cubic meters, with an amount of 1.536 billion US dollars, and an average unit price of 372 US dollars per cubic meter, down 12.4%, 17.4% and 5.6% respectively.\u00a0Among them, tropical hardwood sawn timber is 3.0591 million cubic meters, accounting for 74.2%.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the first half of 2020, the total import and export volume of my China&#8217;s timber and wood products trade was 23.025 billion US dollars, a year-on-year decrease of 18%.\u00a0Among them, imports were 9.828 billion US dollars, down 17.9%, and &hellip; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/chinese-timber-supply-chain-disrupted-massive-imports-european-infested-softwood\/\">Continue reading <span class=\"meta-nav\">&rarr;<\/span><\/a><\/p>","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":64135,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"inline_featured_image":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[4716,4715,4714],"tags":[3254,3299,3247,3248,3690],"class_list":["post-79704","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-latest-trends","category-market-analysis","category-wood-industry-prices","tag-china","tag-europe","tag-hardwood","tag-imports","tag-softwood-logs","topic-forestry","topic-sawmilling","area-africa","area-asia-middle-east","area-australia-and-pacific-region","area-china","area-europe","area-north-america","area-russia","area-south-america"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.9 -
