{"id":79551,"date":"2020-07-28T11:43:17","date_gmt":"2020-07-28T11:43:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tin.happy-projects.ro\/damaged-wood-from-europe-invades-the-chinese-timber-market\/"},"modified":"2025-09-19T08:53:45","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T08:53:45","slug":"damaged-wood-from-europe-invades-the-chinese-timber-market","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.timberindustrynews.com\/ro\/damaged-wood-from-europe-invades-the-chinese-timber-market\/","title":{"rendered":"Damaged wood from Europe invades the Chinese timber market"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Chinese timber imports fell by 21% in the first five months of 2020.\u00a0Instead of 17.5 million m\u00b3, China imported only 13.9 million m\u00b3 from January to May.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While the main suppliers, New Zealand (-30%) and Russia (-42%), lost a lot, the Europeans managed to increase their exports by 128% to 3.8 million m\u00b3.<\/p>\n<p>Germany exported almost 2.3 million m3 of logs within five months.\u00a0According to China Customs, this is 211% more than in the previous year.\u00a0The Czech Republic achieved a similar result: 1.1 million m3 and 164% more than in the previous year.<\/p>\n<p>France, China's third most important European supplier, also doubled exports to 170,000 m3.\u00a0After Vaia storm, Italy intended to export heavily to China.\u00a0That didn't work.\u00a0This year exports reached around 30,000 m3 in five months (4000 m3 in 2019).\u00a0Austria apparently did not ship anything in May.\u00a0Exports remain at a modest 3000 m3.<\/p>\n<p>The European flood of exports can be explained by the high volume of damaged wood.\u00a0It is very remarkable that the export flow did not stop despite the lack of containers and the increase in prices, as well as the COVID 19 measures.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chinese timber imports fell by 21% in the first five months of 2020.\u00a0Instead of 17.5 million m\u00b3, China imported only 13.9 million m\u00b3 from January to May.
