The Swedish government ends the rules for timber storage to facilitate the forest industry during the current crisis.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

In order to facilitate various companies and social functions during the pandemic, the government makes temporary relief in the rules for environmental testing.<\/p>\n

For the Swedish forest industry, this means that the process for starting extended timber storage is shortened from months to weeks.\u00a0The regulatory relief is also a measure to facilitate the work of getting the spruce bark drill timber out of the forest.<\/p>\n

The shutdown of economies around the world due to the virus pandemic has affected Swedish sawmill companies to a lesser extent than the sawmill industry in other large forest countries.<\/p>\n

The sawmills in Sweden, apart from a few weeks' delay or production reductions, have been able to keep up their production.\u00a0At the same time, sawmills in Russia and Canada have had to shut down their production completely.<\/p>\n

According to Eurostat data, Swedish wood products to China have increased by 59% in the first quarter as compared to the same period in 2019. Also, deliveries to the United States almost tripled during the period. The advantage of Swedish sawmills is that they have not been forced to suspend their operations during the outbreak as compared to other competitors from other countries.<\/p>\n
