In January-March, the value of Finland's forest industry exports fell by almost a quarter year-on-year to EUR 2.5 billion.<\/em><\/p>\n

In the wood products industry, the value of exports fell by more than a quarter to EUR 530 million: the value of lumber exports fell by 30 per cent and plywood by 37 per cent. The volume of lumber exports decreased by about 600,000 cubic meters to 1.8 million cubic meters.<\/p>\n

The value of the Finnish forest industry exports dropped in March.\u00a0The value of exports was EUR 950 million, compared to EUR 1.1 billion a year earlier.\u00a0Compared to February, however, the situation improved considerably, when exports amounted to EUR 570 million.<\/p>\n

In the Finnish pulp and paper industry, the decline was 22 per cent in January to March.\u00a0The value of exports of magazine and fine paper fell by more than a quarter, with sulphate pulp by as much as 38 per cent.\u00a0In export volumes, the decline was smaller: for magazine paper, the decline was almost a quarter, for fine paper 22 per cent and for sulphate pulp 17 per cent.<\/p>\n

In January-March, Finland's timber imports increased by 10 per cent year-on-year to 2.9 million cubic meters.\u00a01.1 million cubic meters were imported in March, about 200,000 cubic meters more than in February.<\/p>\n

Almost half of the wood imported at the beginning of the year was pulpwood, 40 per cent wood chips and 4 per cent logs.\u00a0Imports of logs increased by 12 per cent year-on-year, by a third of wood chips, while imports of pulpwood fell by 9 per cent.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
